Musician Meets ‘Viral’ | Viral Marketing Tips
Hey there buddy,
It's Friday/Saturday (depending where you are on earth) once again.
And it's time for our little "catching up" piece...
Today, you're gonna get a simple but sweet answer to the question:
"What Works & What Doesn't in Your Viral Marketing Effort"
If you've been asking this question, these viral marketing tips I have for you will make your life easier.
But first, a little story about this week...
I just did a "viral video marketing" seminar at Success Lounge International a few days ago. And as usual, I had fun...
... more importantly, the people who attended had a blast.
They kept thanking me for the information I revealed that night.
(forgive me if you smell my conceited side rising from the grave here)
BUT... of all the surprising things that night...
(i.e. four nuns attended my seminar from start to finish...
... three friends I haven't seen for a while came: Kevs, the dude who can sing... Pao, the dude who plays American football for the Philippine Team, and RJ, the dude who'm you might have seen in some of our local soap operas & movies...
... add that RP's #1 Success Coach, John Calub, celebrated his birthday with us too)...
... one thing really 'did' it for me:
One lady approached me, and told me that her son has already read my 200+ page book "Awesome ASS (Marketing)" (which she bought for herself)... and because of that, her son insisted to come attend my seminar too.
And so, I met her son during the break.
He was a bit older than me (so 'bit' that it's not even significant I guess).
He told me that he was NEVER fond of reading.
But when he got a hold of my book, he never let it go 'till he finished it.
And he's happy he did.
I felt happy he told me that.
You see, this is one of the reasons "I do what I do" - the priceless appreciation I get from normal people like you and me.
People who want to do something significant in life.
People who want a better life for their family.
And this is very important when creating your viral content...
You can't deny the power of having the intention to make a difference and really put something good out there.
That was my foundation when writing Awesome ASS (Marketing), and creating my viral video "Saan Napunta ang Pera ni Juan" (over 1M collective views in less than 3 weeks)...
Yes, you may fail in your attempts...
... but if you have that "raw" intention...
... you have the fuel to keep on going 'till you hit something.
Just adjust accordingly. I know you're smart. You're here reading.
When it comes to viral marketing, success almost always come from the most basic principles...
Let me tell you this:
Stop with the enforced e-mail/social media forwards already!
Trying to force people to forward your info to friends or family looks skanky in today's ultra-permission-based world.
"A true viral campaign gets forwarded because people are compelled to do so by the glory of the content."
But Dex... what about the other gurus? Why are they telling us to bribe people to get our contents shared?
Well, they are correct too.
But if you want real virality, nothing beats a stone-cold awesome/agitating content.
Here's what will not work:
Suggesting that e-mail recipients forward your message to their friends and family will not work. Adding a line at the bottom of your e-mail that reads “Please feel free to forward this message to a friend” is more likely to get it deleted than forwarded.
And here's what absolutely will work:
- Offering something worthy of sharing: like a valuable discount, vital information, an incentive for sharing like additional entries into a sweepstakes or an added discount or premium service.
- Relevant or timely information, research, or studies that has "shock" value. Interactive content like a quiz or test, especially if it’s fun, will inspire forwarding.
- Jokes and cartoons are almost always forwarded to everybody the recipient knows. Why? Because they are entertaining and entertainment is meant to be shared. Being able to make your audience smile has value.
On top of value, add a really cool multimedia experience and you're likely to achieve a lot of pass-along.
Make something that's "Double A" - Awesome or Agitating!
Imagine little Mike saying...
"Shiiiit, the peeps gotta see this crazy thing."
Put this in your mind next time you create your content and you'll be ahead of the curve.
I know, it sounds simple... silly... and obvious...
But like universal law, it's being superior with the basics that win games.
Oops! Almost forgot one really important thing…
You can craft a brilliant "viral content" following all the rules...
... but if a consumer visits your site and has an experience less that what was promised, you are going to achieve viral marketing, alright… the bad kind.
So be certain that your product or service is ready and is as advertised. Enjoy there viral marketing tips and put them to good use.
